Does Jessica Simpson even know how to drive?

On the last day of gluttonous freebie-grabbing before last night's MTV Video Music Awards, Jessica Simpson proved herself the Queen of Swag. While Jessica tried on clothes and hats under Joe's appraising eye, a young woman appeared with a fistful of VMA passes, which Paves shoved into his Louis Vuitton duffle bag. Jessica, wearing black Dior sunglasses indoors, could only croak out a few words because of laryngitis - but she wasn't too weak to stock up. Two flunkies groaned under the weight of dozens of bags to be loaded into Jessica's SUV. Her haul included almost $4,000 worth of G-Star denim, many thousands more in Rosalina diamond jewelry, dozens of Hanes and Penguin shirts and a Klipsch iGroove home sound system. Somehow Jessica skipped the Heatherette display, but a resourceful publicist foisted a bag of goodies on Joe as he waited for the elevator. Back in the lobby, Jessica primped before facing the paparazzi while her brain trust debated whether or not she should take her black coat off (off won), and she applied multiple coats of lip gloss while Paves dutifully leaned over to tuck stray hairs behind her ears. Then Jessica selected a key out of a grab bag, in hopes that it would start the Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6 convertible parked outside on 40th St. And guess what? It did! The car was hers. The crowd cheered as Jessica added the $50,000 sports car to her day's winnings - all potentially taxable, though her flack claims she's donating the whole pile to charity. "These items are gifts only if the givers are making these presentations out of what the court has called 'disinterested generosity,'" IRS spokeswoman Nancy Mathis told Lowdown yesterday, adding that with swag, the question is: "Was it made from the goodness of their hearts, or was it in return for something, such as posing for a picture?" (Llyod Groves acct http://www.nydailynews.com/news/gossip/story/448480p-377537c.html) But I don't know how to drive, jessica whined. (Actually Jessica is one of the great celebs that really appreciate her fans. After this photo op she went along the crowd signing, posing and hugging fans. Wouldn't it be nicer to donate this stuff to the Katrina victims or something? After a few hours it was time for for somebody's new CD listening party. Who would be big enough to attract the likes of Gilbert Godfrey... Ford Model Lydia Hearst Mario recorded his debut album at age 15, he turned 20 last Sunday. They were hanging outside the In Style MTV Lounge after picking up some goodie bags at the gift lounge. (I know I have been celebrity slacking, but this week is the VMA's in NYC and I am resting up. Tomorrow I have about 6 parties to go to, and then on Thursday the VMA's and about 5 parties. SO I hope to shoot a lot of fun celebs)

INVINCIBLE - A True Story about Philadelphia Eagles Vince Papale

In 1976, Vince Papale (Mark Wahlberg), a 30-year-old Philly bartender, shows up for an open call for the Philadelphia Eagles by their new coach Dick Vermeil(Greg Kinnear), and though he never even played football in college, Vince was able to get on the team and live the dream of every football fan. The movie is great. I did see Vince Papale go in, but didn't get a good shot of him. This is what the "Red Carpet" or really "The Press Line" is all about. Behind the press is a thin area going the length of the Press Line where the early bird fans can stand and take great photos of the stars as they are shot by the press and interviewed by Access Hollywood etc. I am often late arriving from work, but usually manage to sneak into the line. Today I wasn't so lucky and had to shoot from across the street. Later I waited until the movie was over and stood by the exit of the theater. The security detailed is halved by this time and it is easy to shoot the stars or even get an autograph. Howard Stern's girlfriend model Beth OstroskyMarky Mark himself Mark Wahlberg Too close for comfort to get a decent shot... Wahlberg is excellent in the movie and very believable. A football player, anyone know who it is? Another football player, anyone know who it is? Dick Vermil former coach of the Eagles who is portrayed by Greg Kinear in the movie. I think he was excited I knew who he was as I yelled out his name.

Cindy Adams: A Fashion Goddess in the Making

The other night when I attended the Idlewild premiere I saw everyone's favorite gossip columnist, the NY Post's Cindy Adams. She was truly making a fashion statement, not sure what she was going for, but it was loud. Check her out. I know exactly how the girl with the sunglasses feels; I too was like what's up with that thing on your head Cindy? I couldn't figure out if it was extensions gone bad, did she leave her head under the dryer too long, was she shocked by stepping on a wet Con-Ed street cover, did a birds nest drop from a tree and land squarely on her head, was it a half plucked bird ... what the heck was on her head? She sure is as proud as a peacock with herself, the cat's meow I would say.I believe someone just asked her if she was harboring a few baby chicks in the nest; check out her "What you talking about Willis?" look! Here's Cindy in all her fashion glory head to toe Diana Ross hand me down zebra dress topped off by - what the heck is on her head? Ought oh, it looks like one of the chicks from the nest had a small accident and she is wiping it away. Anyone have a tissue? Thankfully Liza came along and I had something else to obsess about :)

Christina Aguilera in Concert GMA

I have to say that although I am a new Aguilera fan, she is definetly more talented than those other two blondes. About 5,000 people showed up for her Good Morning America concert in Bryant Park on Friday August 18, 2006 (Where the heck is the summer going?) It's hard to believe that this powerhouse has dropped only 3 albums in her career. She's got a serious team of handlers...

Martin Short - Fame Becomes Me

Last night after work I ran over to the Opening of Martin Short's new Broadway play - Fame Becomes Me. I have to say it was probably one the best opening I have ever witnessed. Every Iconic comedian was there - Chevy Chase, Tom Hanks, Billy Crystal, Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn, and Jerry Seinfeld to name a few.

Chevy Chase and family

James Marsden stars in 10th and Wolf which opens today in theaters. The story is set in my hometown of Philadelphia. I love the tagline "The intersection where family, honor and betrayal collide." It's about Marine Sgt. Tommy Santoro (James Marsden) thinks he's left behind his family's ties to organized crime. Returning home to South Philly, he meets up with his brother, Vincent (Brad Renfro), and cousin Joey (Giovanni Ribisi), who both become mob thugs. Soon Tommy finds himself on the wrong side of the law. Bernadette Peters; Bette Midler in backgroundElizabeth Stanley soon to be seen in the Company at Ethel Barrymore Theatre starting in Nov. Chris Elliott Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson and Chevy Chase (again) This is a good view of the "Red Carpet" where you can see the celebs go down one side, and their guests and non-celebs (people who don't sell magazines) or people don't want to be bothered doing the press line (Lauren Bacall, Martin Scorsee, Katie Couric) go down the otherside and right into the theater's door. Andrea Martin from My Big Fat Greek Wedding, currently in How to Eat Fried Worms (2006) Brian Stokes Mitchell & Allyson Tucker; Christine EbersoleJerry Seinfeld wondering where his car is parked? His wife looking like she just finished sucking on a lemmon. Matthew Morrison is to the right with the hat on.I almost lost my life getting this photo. To get a shot like this you have to get right in front of the celeb and walk backwards. Well I did that with the other photogs, but what I didn't expect was there would be a mounted cop on the sidewalk - BOOM - I hit the horse with full force, shocking the horse, the cop and making Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn crack up. But it was worth my aching back to get this shot.Martin Short exits the show with a smile on his new face. Paul Schaeffer from Letterman is behind him. I got this great shot of my two favorite people at the After Party held at the Tavern on the Green. Celebs can be so nice when there's only a few people around. SJP thanked us for waiting for them and mentioned that she hope that we had eaten before we took on the task of waiting. Have you ever met nicer and sexier people than these two? After I shot this picture, Matthew walked SJP to a waiting car, kissed her goodnight and sent her off to home without him. He ran back into the TOG and about 15 minutes later came out with James Marsden, a group of guys and 2 tall blondes. With great merriment they all got into cabs and waiting cars and in a caravan made a left onto CPW. Billy Crystal walked outside with Chevy Chase as the latter had a smoke. Chevy posed for one photo with a guy who started quoting from "National Lampoon's Vacation"Eugene Levy has got the American Pie franchise sewn up; he's working on the 7th sequel, is that really necessary? Bernadette Peters tells me that she doesn't plan to go back to Broadway anytime soon, but will do a few more concerts next year. She was sweet, and after I took this shot she insisted I take a photo with her, which I did.Martin Short calls it a night and takes his souvenier glass with him...

The Sunset and The Statue of Liberty

I am on my 3rd day of vacation. I visited the studios of One Life to Live, later in the day I saw Clay Aiken, and even later I saw that guy who plays Erica Kane's newly discovered son Josh walking around the West Village. I like these photos I took at sunset from the Staten Island Ferry.

The Illusionist Premiere

The Illustionist Premiere was last night in NYC. A magician in turn-of-the-century Vienna who falls in love with a woman well above his social standing. When she becomes engaged to a prince, the magician uses his powers to win her back and undermine the stability of the royal house of Vienna. Cast: Edward Norton, Paul Giamatti, Jessica Biel and Rufus Sewell Due to technical errors and misinformation and confusion I was late getting to the premiere so I missed the Red Carpet runs. I did catch Jessica Biel on the Red Carpet doing this interview. Last year I met this up and coming journalist David at the fashion show Oct 05. We spent lots of hours waiting for celebs to go to the shows. He was very interesting as you can see by his web site www.davidjr.com Now he is a freelancer, and does a lot of work for www.genart.org Here he is interviewing Jessica Biel. I was able to catch up with him after the movie.Since I have bought my new camera with the long lens I have now been able to catch shots like this of Paul Giamatti (Sideways, Lad of the Lake) being interviewed. I am standing about 50 feet away. Ed Norton. Was completely irritated that I missed catching him since one of the daily readers of the blog requested an Ed Norton photog if I ever saw him; Oh well there's another movie early in September. Bree Williamson (born December 28, 1981) is a Canadian actress. She is best known for her portrayal of Jessica Buchanan on the ABC soap opera One Life to Live, a role she has been playing since February 2003. It's the first time I have seen her at any function. I love One Life to Live so I recognized her immediately, unlike the paparazzi. Unfortunately she didn't make the photo wire services. This past year Jessica has discovered she has another personality, Tess, who ran away from Lanview to NYC, met a man and got pregnant. Now she is back to Jessica and must share her child with a man she doesn't know, while trying to fight flashbacks of Tess and Nash's romance, even though Jessica is in love with Antonio the disgraced police officer who doesn't seem to have a job for the past couple years. I caught Jessica Biel on her way out of the theater. Ugh I can't stand that one security guard. He was working another event a few weeks back and I had one of those stalker rages when he tried to move me away from the Red Carpet. I told him in the not so nicest term, "I am not on MOMA's property, You do not own the SIDEWALK" Eventually he gave up, but then just stood in front of every shot I tried to take. The After Party or the AP as people like to call it, was held in the Meatpacking District, which a few years ago was a really scary place at night. Now it's a very clubby place for the beautiful people and most of the young hip parties are held in this area. It's not a place the tourist will be found, and the celebrities can go about their partying without being bothered, except if I am there.Long ago it was the Red Light District, old habits never die. This was the scene going on behind me.Finally Ed Norton exits the party. He wouldn't pose for me, and he wouldn't sign for my friend.Jessica Biel on the otherhand was super nice to give us this shot.

A Weekend in Philly

I returned to Philly, where I have a house and a boyfriend, for a long weekend. I have to say I really miss it. Sure New York is awesome, but to me it's a drug that never satisfies me as I run through my life doing event, after event after event with little time to sleep as I was wondering what I was missing, who I didn't get to see, what I didn't get to do. On Saturday I returned to my hometown, Philly, PA, I must of sleep 20 hrs, something I would never allow myself to do in NYC because in NYC you need to be out and about. When I awoke to the silence of the streets and no horns honking it was actually a relief. I went out on my balcony, you can have one of those in Philly without having paid more than a quarter million for your apartment compared to the at least a half a million in NYC, and took in the view of the City (This is not my view. This is the view looking down the Parkway towards City Hall from the Art Museum Steps, or the Rocky Steps as a reference to the film and the steps Rocky climbs at the end of the movie)One of my favorite spots and a place I take a lot of visiting friends is Olde City where Elfreth's Alley is located. It is the oldest continuously inhabited street in the United States dating back to the 1600's. Olde City is a quaint section of town and has a nice combination of historic homes and trendy eateries, bars and nightclubs. High at the top of the list is Rittenhouse Square. Like NYC, Philadelphia has a lot of parks dotting the cityscape and one of the most popular parks is Rittenhouse Square, which is really a 4 acre square parcel of land. It is very popular with sunning people, picnics, and people watching. Another favorite tourist spot is South Stree. People often call it Phily's version of Greenwich Village, which before I lived in NYC thought it didn't look anything like Christopher Street, but now realize they must me Bleeker Street. I like what Wikipedia has to say about South Street: The stretch of South Street between Front Street and Seventh Street is known for its "bohemian" atmosphere and its wide variety of shops and eateries of many different styles. The street is comparable to a large outdoor mall, with the occasional bar and club providing live music. It is one of Philadelphia's largest tourist attractions, and today is mostly frequented by people from outside the city as well as tourists from other states and/or countries. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Street_(Philadelphia) Fairmount Park is the largest park in any city's environ's. I live across the park and love it. There are countless sights within the park, The Horticulture Center, The Azeala Gardens, The Japaneese Tea House, Boat house row where the local colleges keep their scull boats, and the best part about the park is the 8 mile path loop around Schuylkill River (Indian word for hidden river), where you can run, bike or blade. The Philadelphia Art Museum - The Museum contains over 225,000 works of art, and in its sweep of 200 captivating galleries visitors find many surprises and changing exhibitions. Recently a building on the grounds of the Art Museum, overlooking the River has opened as a new resturaunt with rave reviews of the food and sunstets. I look forward to returning to sample the delights. What's this you ask? It's a Mummer and I think New Yorker's, especially the ones that go to Times Square on New Year's Eve, the ones that catch the fireworks in Central Park, you know the ones, you guys who go to the movies in droves the next day, standing in line for hours, because what else are you going to do, then you find out your movie is sold out for the next 5 showings. You, yea youse need to take the train down to Philly and see the Mummers Parade. The Mummers Parade is held each New Year's Day in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Local clubs (usually called "New Years Associations") compete in one of four categories (Comics, Fancies, String Bands and Fancy Brigades [w/music]). Each year, about 15,000 people participate in the parade. Close to $400,000 in prizes are awarded, a small fraction of the cost of sequined, ostrich-plumed mardi gras esq costumes, which can run several thousand dollars each. http://www.mummers.com/ I bet you didn't even know this parade existed, I know most of the New Yorker's I talked to didn't know, but they said it sounded like fun and they would be making the trip next year. I hope to see you Next Year. Finally, Philadelphia nor any City can compare themselves to NYC. NYC is unique in everyway, alive, vibrant, changing, moving at a hyper-frenitic pace, CROWDED. But there's not a lot of relaxing, for that I recommend the Sixth Borough - Philadelphia. Philadelphia compliments NYC by virtue of it's activities on a smaller scale, by providing a more manageable peaceful pace, less crowded and just 95 miles south of it's borders; a commute that is just about as long as travelling to Staten Island my NYC coworker tells me. And if there's something I want to do in NYC, it's not a problem for me to jump in the car (there's plenty of street parking in Chelsea [our little secret]) or get on a train and return to NYC. But when my year long+ business trip is done in NYC, I choose to live in Philly, which to me has all the activities of a big city, and all the charm of a small town, its the region where I grew up, my family is here and most importantly, My Mike is here.

Steve Buscemi is an excellent actor and a helluva nice guy

WOW Steve Buscemi was another one of those people that I was thrilled to meet and I will tell you why. He was a guest at the Matt Dillon premiere last night. When he came out I asked him for this shot, he was ok about it, but as you can see he didn't give me the best shot. After I took the photo I thanked him and began to tell him how excited I was to meet him. I told him that when I came out in the eighties, a movie he did called "Parting Glances" left a great impression on me and I was enternally grateful. It was about a group of fun friends who lived in NYC, some of them were gay, and Steve's character was an ecentric HIV+ guy. I told him he was very brave to play probably the first HIV+ character in any median at the time. He was very moved and asked me my name, shook my hand and told me he really appreciated my comments, and that the movie "Parting Glances" was one of his favorites especially because it was the first real movie (he's on the cover of the VHS), also that it was a fun cast which included General Hospital's John Bolger, and the Drew Carey show's Kathy Kinney. And he also said that the Story needed to be told (he's the best). (The executive summary of the movie: As Michael and Robert, a gay couple in New York, prepare for Robert's departure for a two-year work assignment in Africa, Michael must face Robert's true motives for leaving while dealing with their circle of eccentric friends, including Nick (Buscemi), who is living with AIDS. Michael remains behind and cares for his best friend Nick until he dies [which reminds me of what I did for my best friend Shawn, which is why the movie means the world to me, and why Steve Buscemi is someone I greatly admire) THANK YOU MR. BUSCEMI!!! Steve Buscemi was born in Brooklyn, New York, USA. He became interested in acting during his last year of high school. After graduating, he moved to Manhattan to study acting with John Strasberg. During this time he worked as a NYC Fireman in Little Italy. He began writing and performing original theatre pieces with fellow actor/writer Mark Boone Junior. This led to his being cast in his first lead role in Parting Glances (1986). Since then, he has worked with many of the top filmmakers in Hollywood, including Quentin Tarantino, Jerry Bruckheimer, and The Coen Brothers. He is a highly respected actor.

fac*to*tum - Matt Dillon's new film

Last night I hung outside of Matt Dillon's Premiere of his new film Fac-to-tum; http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0417658/ Love, Love, Love Matt Dillon since Little Darlings...especially in Wild Things & Rumble Fish. Could've smiled for this photo especially since it's for my sister Janine who loves Matt Dillon almost more than Matthew Fox...hmm I guess she has a Matt thing! But MATT can't you afford a shirt that fits? I know I am just jealous, I wish I had a hunky chest that could burst through my shirt in a good way:)

Trust the Man - Premiere

I think Maggie Gyllenhaal recognizes me; in the last couple weeks I have seen her at 3 events. Here she is pictured with her boyfriend, actor Peter Sarsgaard. They were great and signed lots of autographs. Later I went to the afterparty [read: went to the after party means I went and hung out on the street/sidewalk until they left about 11PM] Ok so later I went to the afterparty, and they posed with individual photos, or "Photos With" as my other stalker friends say. She's still pregnant, but beautiful and the most amazing smile. Julianne Moore is someone that I really wanted to see when I moved to NYC. Her husband Bart Freundlich wrote and directed Trust the Man. She was sweet and much shorter in person. Billy Crudup sans Claire Danes, but accompanied by his similarily dressed publicist. Billy seems much older this year, as opposed to last year when he appeared on Broadway in the Pillowman. David Duchovny and Téa Leoni; As they left the premiere I asked them for a photo, they were more than happy, but when I looked at it David is seriously frowning just like he woke up for the 30th time in the X-Files episode called Monday (1999). "A bank robbery gone wrong turns into disaster for Mulder and Scully. Mulder gets shot by the bank robber, and he and Scully, along with everyone else in the bank are blown up by a bomb strapped to the bank robber's chest. However, this same day continues to repeat in an endless cycle always ending in the same result." The "Press Line", Téa never took those damn glasses off for the next couple hours. Finally as she was leaving the after party at Home, I got a photo of her without those sunglasses. Eva Mendes - Sweet, Hot, Friendly.

I don't have any desire to see this movie with Nicolas Cage

I was interviewed by the someone from the Foreign Press (hmm I wonder if it someone that votes in the Golden Globes) I told her I wouldn't be seeing this film, and would be surprised if many New Yorkers or even people who live in the Northeast section of the US would see this film. UPDATE the article appeared on the Drudge Report New Yorkers shy away from Stone's September 11 film... Oliver Stone Maria Bello Stephen Dorf (?) why so grey at age 34When is Maggie Gyllenhaal going to have her baby. She's been pregnant forever!! She's even pregnant in the film. The Alien has landed. He is a far cry from the Moonstruck days. He had so much foundation on I could have spelled my name across his forhead. Otherwise he was nice and shook hands with the fans. Hmm Sting and Trudie. I'm thinking that's not a six pack Sting is sporting.

Enchanted - The Movie

has been filming in and around NYC for the past 6 months; I was fortunate enough to catch them filming late last week, on their last night of filming. (This is my favorite fountain in NYC)

Seems that our star is some kind of wizard Can you see who it is. I took this photo after she had just waved to all the fans that were lining the streets of Manhattan near 53rd and 5th. It's Susan Sarandon, looking as hot and funky as ever. I love this photo where she is sticking her tongue You can really appreciate how fierce her costume is from this angle. Check out Enchanted at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0461770/

More Photos from the SCOOP Premiere last week

Martha Plimpton, Cynthia Rowley and Martha's boyfriend crossing the street after parking their cars in that garage. I am not a big fan of Ms. Rowley's outfit, especially those hideous shoes. So shocking she's a designer and she would wear a near there moo moo dress. I like Martha's chocolate number. Right before I took this photo, Ms. Plimpton was partaking in NYC's diet regime by having a cigarette/no food.Moby - I should have taken a better shot of him. He is unbelievibly nice and very accomodating to his fans. I love to read his blog. Above all else he's a New Yorker. http://www.moby.com/journal Chick from VH1, who is going after Star Jones' old job on the View.Kimberly Guilfoyle Newsom who is on Court TV. Her former husband is the Mayor of San Francisco. She is beyond hot, and super sweet. I love her ex-husband too. He was so brave to allow gay couples to marry in San Francisco. The Devil Wears Prada herself. She actually turned around when I called her name, but then quickly high tailed it out of there with me in chase because I am determined to get a good shot of her. She's about 60 and has some Dorian Grey portrait somewhere in her closet hiding.
