Nikki Sixx signs copies of his new book 'The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star' at Borders Bookstore in Philadelphia, Pa

Fans waiting in anticipation for Nikki Sixx to appear. I have to say I had no idea who he was, I had just been watching the "wires" over the past few weeks and saw photos where he was doing a lot of book signings which caused me to do some research and I found out that he was coming to the Borders in Center City. When I arrived they had a nice set up for the photographers, well nice for us, it was in front of these fans. For me it was great to see some of the local photographers who I have met over the past 9 months as I try to establish myself here in Philly. One of the guys told me he has actually quit his day job and is able to make a living in Philly photographing celebrities. That was really a big deal, I must not be trying hard enough, I can barely pay my memory cards off. He says he will take me around and show me a few things, which would be great as the year is coming to a close and I really want to get something in a glossy magazine or two.
The moment has arrived. Unlike most book signings, Nikki started right off by signing books for fans, bypassing us paparazzi's and not posing with the book in his hand, which is the "money shot." He did respond to a couple of requests. So it wasn't all that bad.
This story really moved me. The girl on the left stated to Nikki that she was in Narcotics Anonymous and Alcohol Anonymous and when she was 30 days in rehab she had read his book and it inspired her, she would say "if Sixx could do it, then I can do it too!". Today, the book signing day, she had just returned form a meeting and celebrated 90 DAYS clean. She handed Sixx her 30 day coin and wanted him to keep it. He was really touched. As she walked away she broke down, I went over and comforted her, congratulating her, and gave her my card and said write me I will send all 15 shots I took of you and your meeting with Sixx. She's got them now.The man
Let the signing begin, no personal items, but books, cd's and body parts were fine
Melinda traveled all the way from Nashville Tn for an autograph One of the photographers asked Nikki Sixx to wave to a young fan in the back, then I got my money shot. We will have to wait and see if this one sells. I do know that tomorrow another shot I took will be in the Philadelphia Inquirer which is awesome. That makes 7 photos in the local papers that I have gotten published since July. I am still having fun, but I have to say it's a whole lot different than NYC where you can get 5 - 10 celebs a day, and in Philly you are lucky to get one a week (OK last week I got 3, photos to come.) Either way I think I will keep my day job.

Is their Goose Cooked? Paris and Farmer Used to Live the Simple Life until Ridiculed in a Greeting Card!

Farmer files lawsuit over use of his picture The complaint seeks $7.5 million in damages from the photographers and the companies that used the image. Andrew Marsinko didn't know that a photo taken of him with a goose had been used in a slightly naughty birthday card until complete strangers started poking fun at him. The complaint filed in Roanoke County Circuit Court seeks $7.5 million in damages from the photographers who took the photo, the companies that offered the photo as a stock image and the companies that created and sold the card. The greeting card features a black-and-white portrait of Marsinko holding a goose, along with the text: "Since it's your birthday, you decide – Would you rather get spanked... or goosed?" Marsinko is suing, claiming he signed no model release [for commercial use] and has been subjected to the ridicule of his peers at "animal auctions and other agricultural events." The lawsuit alleges teasing from colleagues that includes: "Your girlfriend sure has a long neck" and "When did you give up women to hug a goose?" (The folks over at http://www.ideagrove.com/blog/labels/andrew%20marsinko.html thought it was ashame that such animosity came out of an innocent birthday card and thought of a few additional ideas that might not be so offensive)And in a related matter: Earlier in September, Socialite Paris Hilton suffered a similar humiliation, and filed a lawsuit against Hallmark Cards, claiming it used her likeness without permission on a greeting card entitled "Paris's First Day as a Waitress." Hilton, 26, is suing for an injunction against the U.S. greeting card company and for damages in of $500, 000, according to the suit filed USDC in Los Angeles. The suit says that Hallmark failed to obtain approval from the hotel heiress for using her image and had damaged her rights to privacy and publicity. "These cards take a satirical look at news and gossip surrounding ... public figures, including Paris Hilton, and we do not believe Hallmark has violated any of Ms. Hilton's rights," Hallmark said in a statement. (Ought Oh that's sistah Perez Hiltons' defense claim against his suit with X17 - I guess Paris is willing to throw Perez under the bus for pocket change.) Hilton gained notoriety in 2003 when a home video of her having sex with her boyfriend was posted on the Internet. In June, she made international headlines when she was sent to jail on a driving violation, released early and then sent back to complete a 23-day sentence.

LIVE WEBCAST WITH PRESIDENT GEORGE H.W. BUSH as BONO and DATA are honored with the National Constitution Center's 2007 - Liberty Medal

LIVE WEBCAST (http://www.libertymedal.org/) WITH PRESIDENT GEORGE H.W. BUSH AS BONO AND DATA ARE HONORED WITH NATIONAL CONSTITUTION CENTER’S 2007 LIBERTY MEDAL IN HISTORIC PHILADELPHIA on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at the National Constitution Center . DATA is Debt, AIDS, Trade, Africa, the advocacy organization he co-founded to combat poverty and disease in Africa. http://www.libertymedal.org/ Since tickets to the ceremony were gone in minutes, this is the best way for Bono fans all over the country to watch the event. http://www.libertymedal.org/ On Thursday, September 27, Bono and his advocacy group, DATA (Debt, AIDS, Trade, Africa), will receive the Liberty Medal at the National Constitution Center in Historic Philadelphia. And, for the first time, we’re webcasting the ceremony. The live web cast begins at 7 p.m. at http://www.libertymedal.org/. Viewers can watch the 50-minute ceremony live, or archived on the website for a month. A two-minute, edgier version of the ceremony will also be at http://www.libertymedal.org/, posted just hours after the ceremony ends. The 19-year-old Liberty Medal is presented at the National Constitution Center, literally in the shadow of Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. Its $100,000 prize is awarded to someone who has “demonstrated leadership and vision in the pursuit of liberty of conscience or freedom from oppression, ignorance or deprivation.” Bono and DATA, the advocacy organization he co-founded, certainly qualify. Former President George H.W. Bush is the chairman of the National Constitution Center and will present the award to Bono and DATA. So sit back, relax, I am sure that the Bono live cast is going to be 1000% better than P Diddy's Unforgivable webcast we watched last week. Did I mention it's at http://www.libertymedal.org/. The prestigious Liberty Medal, and its accompanying $100,000 prize, will recognize Bono and DATA’s groundbreaking work in raising awareness about and spurring a global response to the crisis of AIDS and extreme poverty in Africa. Locally, you can watch all the events on WPVI TV channel 6 ABC. (all photos by HughE Dillon, except Bono pixs)

BRAD PITT STOPS BY THE WASHINGTON POST FOR RESEARCH

My partner Mike's cousin, a reporter (and now paparazzi) David Nakamura, works at the Washington Post and it seems that Brad Pitt stopped by this afternoon to do a little research for an upcoming movie ("State of Play") with Ed Norton and Natalie Portman... Brad is real people, learning reel life from real reporters. I love how he is sitting on the floor, and the women in the next cubicle is taking something off the printer like its a normal day and the Sexiest Man Alive is not within 10 feet of her beating heart. Here's the link to the story that is in the "Breaking News" section: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/blog/2007/09/21/BL2007092101372_pf.html

Dying Professor's Lecture of a Lifetime

I saw this on Good Morning America this morning, it was really amazing. Randy Pausch, a 46-year-old Carnegie Mellon computer science professor, gave his last lecture this week, and it's getting a lot of attention. He talked to Diane Sawyer today on "Good Morning America" about the inspirational talk and the life lessons we could all use. (ABC News) http://www.abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=3633945&page=1

THE HAPPENING FILMING IN PHILADELPHIA, NOW Pennsylvania

A few weeks back The Happening was hot and heavy filming in Philadelphia (I wrote about it on my other blog www.PhillyChitChat.com with photos of Mark Wahlberg taken my friend http://christophergabello.com/). I couldn't make it that day, but the next day I had read they were near Rittenhouse Square and I ran over there. After shooting a few shots from a distance, the PR person on the set chatted me up, and then allowed me to get a little closer to shoot these of M. Night Shylamen.

Everday a notice comes out of the Casting Department. here's the latest:

Tomorrow they are shooting here: THE HAPPENING Shooting Info SHOOTING INFO FOR THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2007 SAG members: this is a WEATHER PERMIT CALL. THIS is a CLOSED SET. Only those on the list will be permitted.

QUEEN LATIFAH: PAPARAZZI STYLE

I arrived in NYC on the afternoon bus, I stopped taking Amtrak as $90 R/T tickets were getting a bit expensive for me. I stopped off at the theater where the movie premiere was to take place. Nothing was set up yet, so I decided to hit two or three hotels to see if anyone was around, it was Fashion Week, so someone was definitely going to be around. At the second spot I went to, I ran into Ray and his wife. They are the paps that always go to Regis & Kelly every morning. If you see a shot of Kelly, like in People Magazine this past week where she is playing football in heels, well Ray took that shot. He started out as a fan, like I did, and the next thing ya know, someone suggested he get a camera and shoot celebs he saw at Regis & Kelly. His wife still collects the autographs in a book which they will be saving for their son's inheritence. He takes the photos of the celebs, and if there is someone she really likes, he will take a "two shot." Ray didn't know me from Adam, but I knew of him and I strike up a conversation. He says I know who you are waiting for, I said I am just trolling. He tells me who is coming out. And since I know that Ray and I shoot for the same outfit, I mention that I will not submit these shots to that agency, but will submit them to another one. He was nice enough to mention who was inside, and he has to feed his family. I am just doing this for fun, and hopefully a photo in People by the end of the year.
Queen Latifah exits the hotel with her mother, except I didn't know it was her mother, Ray tells me.
A close up shot of the above is published by the NY Daily News for Ray. I secretly kick myself, I didn't even turn this shot into my agency as I thought the others were better; not the one below either. Queen says good-bye to mom, and is ready for an interview with CBS this morning. I thought I got plenty of shots (ie invaded Queen's space) and thought I would give her space, but then I see Ray across the street shooting and thought what the heck, I want in on that action too. I cross columbus ave dodging cars. I also want to see the reaction of people and the fact that this big ass star is walking among themonly this crazy bum bothers Queen, but she doesn't seem flustered and instead engages him in conversation This is my money shot, except no one bought it so you get to see it and it can be your free shot. Anyway Queen isn't all happy about me, but the kids that are standing right in front of me. I love this shot and there's a good chance it will show up on Ebay someday. later after the interview and a walk in Central Park, Queen goes to the corner to cross the street. I love the reaction on these young kids, they are as excited as I am Queen crosses the street the only way someone would that doesn't want to get hit by a crazy NYC taxi driver going around Columbus Circle Queen decides she wants to go shopping and she ducks into the Time Warner building for a few things. I let her continue on her way, as I had the money shot, I thought!

Brett Somers has Died

My biggest confession is that I really got into this business to meet some of my favorite actresses and actors. I guess I won't fulfil my wish of meeting/photographing Brett Somers someday. I loved watching Match Game when I got home from school, while I ate my sliced apples that mom had prepared for me. It must be another gay gene thing: http://gawker.com/news/and-now-she.s-blank/-300656.php

Marc Jacobs is clearly proud of his bod

And he should be. Here's Marc with Wynona Ryder in 2005
TOTAL EXPOSURE: Marc Jacobs is clearly proud of his bod — and bares it all again in the latest edition of Visionaire. The 168-page oversize book, sponsored by Louis Vuitton, includes nude photographs of a bevy of models, actors and celebrities, including Jacobs, this edition's guest editor. Visionaire co-founder Stephen Gan said the concept was conceived more than two years ago and most of the photos were taken late last year. "The idea was to do personal nudes of famous people. We came up with a list of who are considered the most beautiful people in the world," he explained. That list includes Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, Mariah Carey, Drew Barrymore, Naomi Campbell, Scarlett Johansson, Christy Turlington, Gisele Bündchen, Jamie Dornan and Selma Blair, all shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. Though most of the images are quite revealing, "not everyone is stark naked," Gan said (Lopez and Anthony appear clothed, most of the models, including Daria Werbowy and Natalia Vodianova, do not). Thus, the latest edition is entitled "Private", $375. Photos: http://www.out.com/detail.asp?id=22725

Sally Field CENSORED by the Right Wing Media station FOX about the God-Damned War in Iraq

"This belongs to all the mothers of the world - may they be seen and valued," and "If mothers ruled the world, there wouldn't be any god -" Emmy winner Sally Field said before the Emmycast cut her off her sound and pointed the camera away from the stage so viewers would be distracted. Cut off were the words "god-damned wars in the first place." (And thankfully anyone with half a brain would know this was where she was going!) I saw her earlier this year outside of Good Morning America. I think the Simpsons have said worse on their show, and don't let me get started on Bill O'Reilly. So bascially if you don't agree with what FOX/Right Wing has to say, you just censor them. Sounds like the Bush Administration.(Spencer Weiner / Los Angeles Times) Video, story and Comments: http://thinkprogress.org/2007/09/16/fox-censors-sally-fields-anti-war-speech-at-emmys/

Jodie Foster Shows up at Her Premiere Without Her Girlfriend, again

Although Jodie Foster has not officially come out to the press, as far as her virtual life is concerned, she’s out.
(Splash)
Two of the most popular user updated sites - IMDB and Wikipedia - recognize Jodie’s longtime girlfriend, Cydney Bernard, though Jodie herself has never named Cydney inan interview. Wikipedia Quote:
"Because she has lived with producer Cydney Bernard for several years, some people assume that she is a lesbian, but Foster has not made any public statements regarding her sexual orientation."
IMDB Quote:
"Has been in a serious relationship with Cydney Bernard since they met in 1993 on the set of the movie Sommersby"
For the rest of the story: Wikipedia entry on Jodie
(Splash)
Oh if I didn't want to keep my job, this would have been the moment where I would have asked Jody about her girlfriend, and why she couldn't come out as a fine example of a well adjusted role model for the gay community.
Jodie Foster's star turn in The Brave One was good enough for the top spot of the U.S. box office. America loves her. She's a great role model and one of a child actress that made the cross over into adult acting. And yes, I want her to come out so that people who are struggling might realize that hey Jodie's gay and she's OK.
Others who came to the premiere: Barbara Hershey who Currently lives with her partner, actor Naveen Andrews from the TV series "Lost" (2004), who is 21 years her junior. Naveen is in the movie. Barbara has had so much surgery that she looks at least 21 years younger than her 59 years.
Robert Downey Jr, I have no idea why he has blond hair, and this is one shot that doesn't work well being next to the door, but it looks like I am on Roberts home video - CHEESE! Terrance Howard, a class act. He never takes a bad picture. Sorry for the delay in posting. After Fashion week I was burned out, having attending 21 events in five days; spending countless hours prepping my photos, I just needed a break from looking at my photos. The Jodie Foster event was last monday. I didn't get credentialed, but if you show up, the PR are usually nice enough to let the photographers shoot from a pen that is adjacent to the door. Sadly the photos aren't that great as their are always people in the back, and the gates. But sometimes you may get that lucky shot. I like the Jodi picture. She is so amazingly beautiful. I just wish that she would come out so the community could have another class act role model, instead of Rosie O'Donnell.

In her first major role since her Oscar-winning performance in "Dreamgirls," Jennifer Hudson is joining the cast of "Sex and the City: The Movie."The singer and actress, 25, will portray the assistant to Sarah Jessica Parker's shoe-obsessed character Carrie Bradshaw, and is in final negotiations with the movie's producers about details of her role, Variety is reporting. Graduation Day - Kanye West CD Signing at FYE New York City

Lucky me, on my way to the Tents last week, I passed by FYE and a whole bunch of people waiting for what I later found out would be a late schedule Kanye West "Graduation" signing of his new CD. These people heard the news to and got here at about 4AM, but they are first in line and the line goes down the block. About 500 people waiting for Kanye's signing to begin at 10:30AM. He was late, finally arriving about 11:30AM.
At some point Fifty Cents promoters showed up and began signing Fifty songs. The crowd of Kanye fans booed them down. (At some point when I find the cord to my camera I will be downloading this events happenings)Finally the big moment arrived, and I was the only photographer to capture the event. And since I sent these shots to my agency you gotta deal with the watermark. This might be the only promo he does, because after losing all five moonmen nominations on MTV's Music Awards, he's been cancelling promo gigs left and right. http://view.break.com/364839 - Watch more free videos

The Masses Will Be Worshiping Debbie Harry Once More

Last night I spotted this Iconic beauty departing from the Marc Jacobs Fashion Show. I noticed something interesting about her dress, seems there's a face on her dress. Is it Jesus, Elvis? Do you see it? a close up Whatever it is, I worship Blondie anyday of the week. She looks fabulous at 62 and doesn't seem to mind that she’s no blonde no more. Fashion Week for me is done and it was fucking amazing. I am exhausted. For the last 7 days I have been in and out, and up and staying in New York experiencing Fashion Week like I never did before (from Sunday morning til Tuesday Evening I literally got 5 hrs sleep). But I took a lot of video, I have a lot of behind the scene stories, and you will know how those photos that you see in the glossies came about, you will be there, and you will know. Hopefully I will get on the case shortly while I recover from my week.

The song Big Ten Inch Record by Aerosmith - I don't think it was about a record at all, I bet it was autobiographical

Remember the song Big Ten Inch Record bySteve Tyler and Aerosmith, it goes something like this: got me the strangest woman believe me this trick's no cinch but I really get her going when I whip out my big 10 inch record of a band that plays the blues well a band that plays its blues she just love my big 10 inch record of her favorite blues last night I tried to tease her I gave my love a little pinch she said now stop that jivin' now whip out your big 10 inch record... I may be daft sometimes, but I don't think it was about a record at all, I think it was a bit autobiographical. Last night Steve Tyler and his girlfriend attended the Conde Nast Fashion Rock's TV show, something got him excited so tune in tonight at 9PM on CBS to see his Big Ten Inch Record. **** AND Stay tune for all my Daily Fashion Week updates and behind the scenes happenings, stories and video to come.

First day of Fashion Week New York City

Ok its 1:40 AM and I have just gotten home since 10AM this morning. The stories and people I saw today. I actually got 2 exclusives; one was a superstar cougar who hasn't had a good movie in awhile, but did get a nice new face a few years back which landed her her twenty something husband, can you guess who? Then another singer/actress who is sporting an ankle bracelet and who isn't afraid to show it off. I had heard about a luncheon that SJP was to attend, and you know I was gonna be there baby. No SJP, but I caught the couger running in. I waited 3 hrs for her exit and got her. OK then it was off to Rag & Bone's for Kate Bosworth. The camera was acting up and I didnt get such a hot shot. Then to Gwen Stefani's LAMB. I shot alot of good photos, but more importantly I shot some better Video so that you can see what it is like to be in the mayhem. Then to the party of the night, Calvin Klein. It was a dud. I missed Antonio Sabato Jr, Hilary Swank and Dijuom whats his name, but I did get Kimora Lee Simmons, who is now dating Dijuom from Blood Diamond. Then to Tenjune for their 1 year anniversary party. The PR handling the carpet was great, and I got a few good shots there. There was some drama which I will share in the future when I return to Philly and my photoshop. I have to upload the shots to my agency now. Did I mention I am credentialed for Fashion Rocks. Its gonna be lonely, none of my friends were and they are pissed. They all shot it last year. Tommorow is gonna be crazy, lots to do, see and shoot. HughE

It was the night before Fashion Day 1

and I had a blast. It's 2:43 and I have to get to sleep, the first show I am attending is 9AM, Nautica. Tomorrow there is no less than 13 parties I need to cover; Tonight I went to three; I dont have any shots that I want to post as of yet, but I can tell you that I have seen quite a few celebrities. More important I saw quite a few friends, and rode shot gun with my paparazzi friends who do it for a living, Marguarita and Carmen. SO much fun, lots of stories to share with my readers about the behind the scenes adventures. Tonight we hit the Tom Ford party, Van Cleef, Imitation of Christ, in addition to a few drive by's, which means we drove by a few of the clubs to see if there were shooters outside, SUV's, checking plates as only certain limos get to drive the celebrities. TONIGHT I shot a couple of rockers that don't get out much. They are being shopped as we speak and hopefully tomorrow I will hear about a few sales. GOOD NEWS for me, I have been credentialed for Fashion Rocks, which will really be the first MAJOR red carpet event that I will shoot at. It also means that I have to get a serious camera cord and drop another $100 bucks so my flash can take the beating of continous flashes of the celebs. Fashion Rocks is hosted by Jeremy Priven, Entourage, who I shot earlier tonight. Missed a shot of him helping to pick up a photographer that fell into a tree, as Jeremy was walking towards him. Now that would have been a good shot. Also I have to remember to tell you the story of someone calling Rachael Ray a bitch, that girl is just too big for her britches.

Just my luck, the NYC Cabs will be striking during Fashion Week

Thousands of New York City cab drivers may hold a 48-hour strike September 4 and 5 to protest the mandatory installation of credit card machines, global positioning units and video screens in all taxis, according to NY1.The Taxi Workers Alliance, which only represents a portion of the city's cabbies, is especially unhappy with the GPS units that will track the location of the cars, as well as the credit card machines which the cab drivers must buy and pay to maintain - and drivers also lose a percentage of each transaction. The Taxi Workers Alliance told amNewYork that it represents 10,000 drivers.) It's hard to chase celebrities if you cant get a cab; now Simon has offered me a bike to ride, but I dont think I will be going there.

HOW TO GET INVITED TO A NEW YORK FASHION SHOW

HOW TO GET INVITED TO A NEW YORK FASHION SHOW Related Articles: New! Volunteering for the 7th on Sixth Shows and Citadel Security The "Gatekeepers" of the New York Shows. We all know that with hard deceptive work and a good dose of moxie it's possible to get over on the world, at least temporarily. A past Sunday New York Times The City section article "No Invitation? No Problem!" reveals a whole industry of such hard workers where gatecrashing is an art you can learn in a course at The Learning Annex (how New Age to offer a curriculum ranging from gatecrashing to Deepak Chopra, everything you need for this life and after) . I almost admire this kind of cleverness and drive as long as it is motivated by some true purpose: true purpose may be to serve your own career but it should also contribute something to the industry. The career gate crashers are disturbing when they only take and never give back, there for themselves and not the industry. Ultimately it is our works that carry us through and if your work does not legitimately give you reason to be there then you are taking the place of someone who does. But that's the rub. BUT, hook up with the right guardian angels and you may find yourself in some pretty magical places. GET A JOB It sounds silly but the first step is to get a job. Any kind of job. Whatever area of the fashion business you are interested in, find work as close to that dream as possible. Do not limit yourself in what you do. Persevere. Work in the industry is a foot in the door. And with that foot in the door you meet people, make connections, learn about the business, discover mentors, hear about other job opportunities -- even get invitations to fashion shows and parties. Andre Leon Talley started his career sweeping the floors of Andy Warhol's Interview offices. Marc Jacobs worked at Charivari while attending high school. Anna Wintour assisted Carrie Donovan at Harper's Bazaar. If you can, find a company with growth potential. A low level job can turn into a high level career with that same company. GET CONNECTED Find out what's going on. The bible of all bibles in the fashion world is Fashion Calendar (212-289-0420 or Fashioncalendar.net). Any event worth its weight will be listed on Fashion Calendar with contact names and numbers. If you have a chunk of change to spare ($452) you can subscribe to this venerable bi-weekly publication. Many events will be by invitation only. No invitation, no access. If you are a legitimate member of the press you can request coverage of the event but this may also be limited to amount of press and to where you can go. Legitimate means your work, writings, photos, video footage, appear regularly in a venue or several venues. It could be your own venue. If you are an employee of standing either in the retail, magazine, internet, or television worlds, you may get an invitation but even this is no guarantee depending on space. If you are not "important" enough to be invited check with your fellow workers, your boss or your network of connections for an extra invitation. The good news is often times, especially at fashion shows, arriving early with an invitation can get you in. Be warned however, the more well known designers may also have a list of names at the door. Sometimes they can even check for I.D. If you are not on the list you are not in the door, invitation or not. As a last resort you can go to the event. Extra invitations are hard to come by, you may even risk a reputation as a gatecrasher but it is a good way to meet people in the industry. You might, during fashion week, find free passes to parties being held at clubs around town. This is the beginning of your networking. Also during fashion week there is sometimes standing room access if you are willing to wait in line for everyone else with invitations to be let in first and take the chance there is room left over. Many times you would be surprised how many big shows you can get into if you are willing to just make the effort and show up! And finally, if you can spend an entire week at the shows you can try becoming a volunteer with 7thonsixth. They recruit quite a number of volunteers to help run the shows. AND NETWORK Fortunately or unfortunately connections count for a lot in any world and especially the world of fashion. Make a powerful enough network for yourself however and it can even compensate a lack of talent. If you are not the daughter, son, niece, nephew, friend, then you must make your own connections. If you are considering school attend a school in Manhattan, the capitol of American fashion. Go out. Go to clubs, art openings, hot restaurants (even just for a drink at the bar), parties, fashion shows, any industry functions you can get into. Meet people. Get yourself on mailing lists. Be seen enough and there are those who will invite you because they want you to be seen with them. Of course you must look fabulous, fabulous enough to stand out from the crowd. Make a statement; a fashion statement followed up with sincere hard work. It is the only true path to making your mark in this business. - by Laurie Schechter (This article was first published on Lookonline in 1999) Or buy tickets to the Courture Fashion Show which coincides with Fashion Week. http://www.couturefashionweek.com/

I am away for Fashion Week in NYC Spring 2008 Collection

Twice a year, huge white tents descend upon midtown’s Bryant Park on 40th and 6th. Fashionistas bark orders to get their garb in gear as their assistants engage in the mind-numbing ritual of organizing highly coveted invitations by days of the week. Yep, these are the sights and sounds of Fashion Week. While Fashion Week may be the time to premiere next season’s collections, you will not find the best show on any runway. It is on the streets, which is an excellent opportunity to check out the shakers and the breakers of the fashion scene and that is where I like to be. Naomi Watts will be on GMA on Thursday. Let's see if she's gotten her figure back. God knows after 5 years, I still haven't gotten mine back. A boy and his beard. JC Chasez and Jamie Lynn Siegler. No doubt they will be there Wednesday, and at Heatherette on Thursday too. (Updated 6hrs later: I was researching fashion week for any parties I may have missed, and look what I came across - JC Chasez MySpace Bulletin September 2 2007 Fashion Week - NYC I'll be going to New York City for Fashion Week this coming Wednesday...always a good time! Have a great Labor Day! - Too funny!!) Oprah's coming to town next week to tape her show, but don't you think she might attend a few fashion show's too, I do believe that Oscar De La Renta is celebrating a big fashion milestone in a new building. Then perhaps she may attend a charity concert, I think so, I'll be there will you? This is a shot of O and Gail leaving their hotel, you may find me there too, er on the sidewalk, 'cause this gig doesn't pay me enough to stay there. (Thanks to Katie and Simon for letting me crash on their couch) I will try and post during the week: Here's one days schedule: 9am regis - Richard Gere, co-host Anderson Cooper 12pm Olga Kapustina - Chelsea Art Museum 6pm Baby Phat - Tents 6pm SNOOPY IN FASHION - Roseland 7pm The Tennis Legends Ball 7pm Cavallie Flagship Store Opening 9pm Proenza Schouler - The Armory 9pm Rock & Republic
