The Broadway Community Celebrates Julie Harris

Sadly I never got to experience Julie Harris on the Great White Way http://www.ibdb.com/person.asp?id=44243 but I did enjoy her on Knots Landing for many years. Earlier this month the Broadway Community celebrated her body of work with a dinner at Tavern on the Green. Immediately after work I hopped on the B train and got there just in time to catch Eli Wallach (b. 1915) and Anne Jackson (b. 1925) married 58 YEARS!!. Here they are checking out the full moon over Central Park. I was a little hesitant to take this shot because right before Eli said to Anne, "C'mon Anne are you gonna take all day, it's just a full moon!" He was a tad crotchedy, but I took a chance and was glad the photo came out in one shot. A short time later the grande dame four time TONY winner, Angela Lansbury arrived (can you believe she played Jessica Fletcher for 263 episodes, 1984-1996, plus she was in my favorite movie Gaslight). After attempting to control my gushing, she was able to escape before I fell at her feet and bowed in awe of her glory. OK it wasn't that bad, it certainly wasn't as bad as when I met Luke and Laura yesterday. In May 2005 you will get a chance to be amazed by her geniune talent as she appears on the Boards again with Marion Seldes in Deuce playing at the Music Box in New York City. Maybe Sarah can tell me if she has been given the title of Dame by Order of the Queen, or why that title hasn't been bestowed on her. http://sarahbsadventures.blogspot.com// I am embarrassed to say that I never ever heard of Marion Seldes and her broadway career http://www.ibdb.com/person.asp?ID=16116 before I started this business trip in NYC 8/05. I now know of her body of work and it is extensive including films and TV http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0783033/ (she appeared on one episode of Murder She Wrote), and have also heard stories of greatness people have shared with me. I have seen her attending many events, and spending good quality time chatting and posing with her fans. I look forward to see her in Deuces when it opens in May 2005.Tyne Daly was also in attendance with this familar guy, anyone know who it is? They also came out to look at the moon, which when low in the sky looked about 10times as large as normal. I saw Tyne in Rabbit Run last season and her performance was nothing but incredible. I of course have been in love with her since her Cagney & Lacey days (she has appeared in 5 episodes of Murder she Wrote). One night I was walking down Broadway and saw her come out of the drug store Duane Reade, she must have just completed her show as it was about 111PM. She walked with a friend right down 50th towards 6th ave and not one tourist took a double take, I found myself jumping up and down screaming what are you blinded by the lights of times square, don't you know an icon of TV and broadway is in our midst. Then my daydream stopped and I let Tyne walk among us like regular folk and stopped staring at her.The lady of the night, Julie Harris. I was not familar with her on Broadway, but enjoyed her for years on Knots Landing as the ditsy mother of Valene. Julie Harris was born in Pointe Black Mi in 1925 and is one of those rare talents whose career transcending the broadway, the big screen and the little screen. It was really an unexpected high point of my stay here in NYC.

Hooray - you finally posted these great pics and the story. Love it! Angela was bestowed the Commander of the British Empire when she was still doing MSW but I don't think that makes her a Dame.

With Tyne Daley is Johathan Hadary who played Herbie in the 1989 revival of Gypsy.

Oh and Marian Seldes is a trip - very dramatic and grand. I know she is loving all of this attentiont she's getting from co-starring in Deuce with Angela (previews begin April 2006 and opens May 2006). (Of course I already have a ticket, I'm not daft.)
