WOW Steve Buscemi was another one of those people that I was thrilled to meet and I will tell you why. He was a guest at the Matt Dillon premiere last night. When he came out I asked him for this shot, he was ok about it, but as you can see he didn't give me the best shot. After I took the photo I thanked him and began to tell him how excited I was to meet him. I told him that when I came out in the eighties, a movie he did called "Parting Glances" left a great impression on me and I was enternally grateful. It was about a group of fun friends who lived in NYC, some of them were gay, and Steve's character was an ecentric HIV+ guy. I told him he was very brave to play probably the first HIV+ character in any median at the time. He was very moved and asked me my name, shook my hand and told me he really appreciated my comments, and that the movie "Parting Glances" was one of his favorites especially because it was the first real movie (he's on the cover of the VHS), also that it was a fun cast which included General Hospital's John Bolger,
and the Drew Carey show's Kathy Kinney.
And he also said that the Story needed to be told
(he's the best). (The executive summary of the movie: As Michael and Robert, a gay couple in New York, prepare for Robert's departure for a two-year work assignment in Africa, Michael must face Robert's true motives for leaving while dealing with their circle of eccentric friends, including Nick (Buscemi), who is living with AIDS. Michael remains behind and cares for his best friend Nick until he dies [which reminds me of what I did for my best friend Shawn, which is why the movie means the world to me, and why Steve Buscemi is someone I greatly admire) THANK YOU MR. BUSCEMI!!!
