Grey Gardens Opening Night on Broadway

The musical is based on the Documentary GREY GARDENS about the aunt and cousin of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Ms. Edith Bouvier Beale and "Little" Edie Beale. I almost missed Opening Night as I had to work late, but because my blogger friend Sarah (see her great blog about broadway, celebrities, culture and a fabulous life at sarahbsadventures/ ) Anyway because Sarah mentioned in my comments this morning that she was looking forward to my Grey Garden's Opening Night photos, I told my boss I would come in extra early on Friday to finish the work which would have had me there til midnight Thursday. After speaking with a few paparazzi friends, they told me that no one exciting showed up. Now I know Rosie and Kelli were there, and they agreed, but look who they missed because "no one exciting" ie. no one who would sell was there, no Britney, Madonna or JLo is what they meant. In this picture the guy in the white crocodile jacket, I know its crocodile because he wore it to an event last April and it was described that way in the fashion rags, anyway, did you see the Devil Wears Prada? This is Leon Tally, he is played in the movie by Stanley Tucci. He is the devil's assistant and you would need to wear crocodile to protect yourself from the Devil Who Wears Prada Ms Anna Wintour editor of Vogue. Here is Harvey Fierstein did I mention that Grey Gardens has a big gay cult following, as does the star. You have got to listen to the podcast of an interview with Christine Ebersole about the show and her gay following. She says to survive in show business you have got to have a gay following, you just aren't worth a grain of salt without them. I liked that he smiled for me. All last year he had that darn beard for Fiddler, I finally got him without it.Guess who's sister this is? It's Jackie O's sister, Lee Bouvier. They have the same profile. They are both featured in almost the entire first act as little girls playing at Grey Gardens (the name of the estate where her aunt and cousin live) I think that if the Kennedy link wasn't there, this show would never have seen the light of day. Kelsey Fowler portrays her.Mary Louise Wilson is terrific in the show as big Edie. And wow what a difference she looks like in person. Ms Wilson used to be on "One Day at a Time" as Ms. Romano's friend Ginny. Plus many other TV shows, including All My Children as Greenlee's grandmother.Everyone says just give Christine Ebersole the Tony, and they are right. She is wonderful in the show, even though the show is a real downer as we see the glory days of two grande women, who in their later years fall prey to mental illness and neglect.

Awesome! I'm sorry you had to go to work early though! Ugh! The man w/ the white hair and black glasses in the picture with Lee is Albert Maysles, the film maker of the original Grey Gardens. He was also there filming for the first preview and we visited with him. He loves the show and is a delightful man.

Hey! It was nice meeting you last night. My picture of Christine sadly did not come out, but that's ok I'll be seeing her in a couple of weeks when I see the show!

Thanks for keeping me company in the cold! :)
