HAIRSPRAY Crazy on the red Carpet

HAIRSPRAY Can't Keep The Fur From Flying (title from Light and camera - thanks to John for sending it to me)

As I reported earlier this week, the Hairspray premiere was at the Ziegfeld Theater on Monday, 7pm

PR made this a wonderful mess for everyone.

The said you had to be on their list, others complained they never received confirmations, and then the rest of the crew with NYPD press passes, ready to work. (for years the photographers kept their own list separate from the PR people. It was first come, first serve, but now the new gig is in town they only want you to be on their list, and they will place you)

Some were taken inside, some were placed in the 'A List' area, and the rest were placed first n the red carpet.

Did anyone else notice a top level, all access 'A LIST' shooter shooting second row....hhhmmmm - was it Wireimage, those guys have all the secret contacts, don't they?.

And yet with all of this commotion, things ran quite smoothly. Their was plenty of space for us to shoot, and we barely went two rows deep.All the talent posedwere all cooperative; Travolta/Preston, Amanda Bynes,Michelle Pfeiffer;

As the event came to what seemed the end, a large portion of shooters left. Unfortunately for them, more talent arrived until 7:30pm, which included Liza Minelli, Paula Abdul and Katie Holmes. Katie Holmes being the money shot for the night. Later I read that she was the guest of Queen Latifah as they just finished a movie together, but you can betch bottom stars that had fellow Scientologist John Travola not been there, Katie would have not been there either.Although most of the paparazzi stayed out front for the departures, a few fans ventured out back thinking most of the talent would leave that way. They had to settle for John Travolta, which is not really settling, but it turned out that 90% of the talent left through the front door, including Katie Holmes.(All Photos: AP Photo)
